About the competition

‘GoPlaces with Bus Éireann’ is a new competition for Transition Year students. For the first time in the academic year 2016/2017 we are inviting Transition Year students to get their thinking caps on and to propose some new and different elements in how we deliver our services.

Bus Éireann operates the School Transport Scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills. Every day we carry 112,500 students to school and back – that’s over 41 million journeys per year on the School Transport Scheme alone. We also operate regional city and rural PSO (Public Service Obligation) buses nationwide, and have a separate commercial service called Expressway.

Given that many of you are/will use our services regularly, we are asking you to think of something that will might add or alter in our service delivery that will benefit you, your school and/or your local community.

So in a nutshell, that’s why we’ve created the Bus Éireann Go Places Transition Year Competition! We also think you will have a lot of fun entering.

You can enter in teams, or individually. Your submission might be something that could count towards your project work for the year. You could win €3,000 for your school and a trip to Tayto Park for you and your classmates. But most importantly, if you impress us enough we might even take your idea on board. Wouldn’t that be a nice addition to your CV!
